Healing Hearts Child Advocacy Center works on a daily basis with the Child Protective Services (CPS) and law enforcement to provide resources for children who are victims of abuse in our community. On average in DeSoto County, there over 100 children who are removed from their homes each year due to a safety concern.
Since opening in 2013, Healing Hearts CAC has become aware that these children who are removed from their home have a lack of resources during the first few weeks in their new environment. Therefore, Healing Hearts CAC has established a closet location to provide vital basic necessities for our community’s children who are in crisis.
The closet is called "Tyler's Closet" in memory of an 11 year old boy who was a DeSoto County resident that was tortured and starved to death by the people who were supposed to love him and take care of him. Tyler’s Closet is a way to remember him as a reminder that when children are taken into custody they are being protected from abuse and possible death as happened in Tyler's case.
